Wow – it’s been quite a trip so far: We began by touring the cool major cities, explored the twists and turns of the ancient Medina’s, headed out to the Sahara Desert for a night of peace, and now we are going to check out the hustle and bustle, incredible sights and unique foods of the “World Famous” Moroccan markets, both large and small… so if you’re ready, let’s get going!
As with most countries, the best food is not found in restaurants, but in the streets, markets and homes of the local people, and Morocco is no different; and the genesis of each of these creative, spicy, sweet, savoury unique (camel spleen kabob, anyone?) meals are the many markets that are scattered around the country, which are often (but not always) tucked away in the dark corners of the Medinas. Let’s begin our tour by looking at the vendors in the larger (and often covered) markets, and check out the incredible foods (and other surprises) they have for sale everywhere from shopfronts, to blankets, to pieces of cardboard on wet floors – Enjoy!
While the photos of the last vendors where all taken in markets in larger cities (Fez, Rabat, Marrakech) here are a few smaller spots we visited, mostly on our treks between cities. They usually carried all of the same items, but as far as being markets were much more basic, even crude in their operations. In most cases they were very dirty, dusty, and to some degree unsanitary in their presentation of food. Sorry, but I’ll pass on those sweet cakes today, thank-you…
So that’s it; that’s all. Thanks for joining me on my quick little three-part tour of Morocco, one of the most ethnic, interesting and visual countries I’ve ever had the pleasure to visit; I hope you enjoyed what you saw, and if you have any other questions, or would like to know more about this style of travel, just drop me a quick email here and I’ll be happy to help you out. Thanks again for coming along!
