Well, it’s finally here – We leave today for our annual sojourn down to Puerto Vallarta, and let me tell you, I can’t wait to get down there and get started! This year there will be two big differences to our usual routine, both of which add a bit of a “wild card” factor to our annual Mexican experience. The first is that we are taking a friend down with us, as he is someone who sorely needs a tropical vacation and hauling his ass down with us seemed to be the only way to make that happen; and second is that after 7 days, he’ll come home and Paula and I will spend another week just relaxing by ourselves, for a total of 14 days away from home and Tristan – not seeing him for two weeks is the only real downside of this extended vacation, but in the long run I can justify it as I – we – really need a break.
It’s been quite a year, and one without any real time off since our last trip to Mexico in June, a getaway which didn’t turn out so well. We tried a new resort, which in fact, turned out to be nothing more that a very, very old and tiny hotel with only 80 rooms, one shitty restaurant, one shitty pool, one shitty bar – you get the idea. It was about as far away from being a resort at London is from Tokyo, and being 7 days of hot, hot sun with no place or no people to distract or entertain us, it didn’t feel like much of a holiday. To ensure this doesn’t happen again this year, we are returning to our favourite spot of all – the Royal Decameron Resort. It’s a huge, beautiful place full of Canadian visitors, all who love the famous “Happy Hour” that takes place in the (adult) pool everyday from 3pm on… so much fun. Plus 8 restaurants, 9 bars, great beach front, etc… for us, it’s just what the doctor ordered!
As I was saying, it’s been quite a busy/stressful/hard year for me on many fronts – and to be honest, in talking with lots of people, it seems it has been for many others as well. Oh sure, we’ve all had good times, and great experiences, etc. but the one common denominator is that our jobs – many of which we’ve all held for years – have become more demanding, or have more expectations, etc. than ever, and all this constant change has a major effect on our home lives and personal time. This is why a week or two away from the cel phones, computers Facebook updates etc. is important – to leave all that which causes us to feel stress or “connected” to our daily routines behind for a bit, even if we are away having fun.
Therefore I won’t be writing or posting on FB for the next couple of weeks – Instead I will be gathering up some great ideas and inspiration, and snap a few photos along the way to illustrate those ideas for when the time actually comes to type them into the Mac. I hope that’s okay, and want to say I really appreciate everybody who takes to time to read what I write, it means the world to me, and I am truly very, very grateful for all the support you show me. I promise after a couple of weeks recharging I will be back with some brilliant posts that will inspire you all in food, life and travel.
Until then, I say “Cheers” to you all, and have a great couple of weeks! Oh, and if at all possible, please miss me and my sardonic wit and wisdom, even if it’s just a little bit; then I’ll know that I make a difference with all my jabbering. (If not, I guess I’ll just hit the pool for Happy Hour” just a wee bit earlier!)
