What can I say? I love to eat, and I love to drink; but most of all, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the friendship and relationships that develops over plates of good food and/or terrific beverages – especially when those include a glass (or ten) of wine, beer or fufu cocktails!
Bonding with friends who are also epicures is one of my favourite things in the world to do, so much so that it’s on my goals list to ensure we indulge in it at least 2 x per month; and from what I’ve seen, we aren’t alone in loving this activity of hedonistic gorging and good times.
And just to be clear, when I say epicure, I’m not talking about those wannabe snobs who call themselves “foodies”; you know, those who watch “The Food Network” and then swish wine around in their mouths and comment about the “nose” and “legs” of it; or the posers who “detect smoky notes” in their plates of oysters, and get all upset and have a breakdown when the romaine in their caesar salad is cut too thick… No, I’m talking about real people who, like you and me, just enjoy good food, drink and good times with friends and couldn’t care less if our steak is 4 degrees hotter than it’s supposed to be. That crap takes all the fun out of, well, having fun! I’ll take a good plate of homemade “Pulled Pork” over the Michelin Chef’s Famous”Roasted Duck” any day; just as long as there’s a few tasty beverages and good friends on the side.
And it appears I’m not alone in feeling this way – In fact, it seems that many famous people throughout history have also indulged in this same love affair with food, beverage and good times. So in honour of it, I dug around the inter-web to find out what they had to say about it, and here’s a few “fun quotes” that I found -I hope you like them too. Please note they are best read when (a) hungry, or (b) if it’s “Cocktail time”!
